Tails — Secure, Amnesiac, and Portable
Last updated: May 2026
Tails is a live operating system that you can run from a USB stick. It is designed to leave no traces on the computer you use. All network traffic is forced through Tor, and it includes a suite of privacy tools.
Why Use Tails?
- Amnesic: Nothing is saved to the hard drive unless you explicitly enable persistence.
- Tor-integrated: All connections go through Tor by default.
- Built-in tools: PGP (GNU Privacy Guard), KeePassXC, Electrum (Bitcoin wallet), and more.
- Free and open-source.
