Important Settings in Tails

When you boot Tails, you are presented with a welcome screen. Here are the settings you should configure for maximum security.

Language and Keyboard

Choose your preferred language and keyboard layout. This does not compromise anonymity.

Persistence

If you want to save files, passwords, or PGP keys between sessions, set up a persistent encrypted storage. This is covered in detail in the Persistence guide.

Additional Security

• Disable JavaScript by default — Use the Tor Browser's security slider.
• Use the "Safest" security level — This disables JavaScript on all sites.
• Never install additional software unless you know exactly what it does.
